Hello!! It won't be a surprise AT ALL - in fact, I'll probably be the one ordering it.  My guy is sweet and wonderful but he hates to shop and is totally clueless about such things. The one time we really went to look at rings he got completely confused because the things he thought were expensive were cheap and then he couldn't understand why the ring with just one stone cost more than the ring with a few smaller stones. When we looked at a bridal set he asked, "Why are there two rings?" I told him that one was the ering and one was the wedding band and he looked even more panicked. "You mean I have to buy TWO?!"So he's given me a budget to work with ($5,500 max) and I've been doing a LOT of research. I love halos (just learned that term yesterday on this forum!) and have my eye set on the round bezel set from James Allen. His only criteria is that he wants it to be appraised for twice what we paid. I've tried to tell him that a lot of jewelers artifically inflate the appraisals to make you think you're getting a great deal but he just wants those "bragging rights" when he tells people about the ring he got me. Haha, my BF did the same thing! I had to remind him that his mom wears both a solitaire and a band on her left ring finger and explain the process, and then I think it made more sense.  I hope your stay on the list is short!Heh, my dear boyfriend was clueless at first too... He got a little panicky about buying two rings at first too, but we''re having a 2-3 years engagement, so he relaxed... He even knows about the 4 C''s now, and knows that cut is the most important!!
