Allright, so I''ve had my stone appraised and we are getting a custom setting made...

Here''s the problem, I want either plat 950 or PD White Gold, but how do I know for certain that the metal is what I am paying for?

It''s not like I can have the metal itself tested/apprasied, is it?

I am mostly concerned if I go the PD WG route bc it is uncommon, but what is to stop a jeweler from using PD white gold instead of plat, for example?

And how would I know the plat is 950?

ahhh!

Thanks for any advice!

OK, to state that question more clearly (seems scattered on re-reading):

How can I be sure the metal alloy I order for a custom ring is the metal alloy I get?

Appraisers can do a test to determine the metal.

But an easier way to distinguish between WG and plat is the weight. Plat is much heavier than WG.

Also, it is against the law (I would assume) to stamp the inside of the ring as Plat, PT950, or PT900, etc. (platinum) if it were WG and viceaversa.
