Mine was a handbuilt barbie house my mom made for me. I don''t know how she came up with the idea, but she used plywood to build the structure then took seperate pieces of wood and carved out sinks, a bed, couches, & even a toilet! All of those could be moved around and rearranged. It was amazing. She was a very creative person. It was big enough that I could climb inside it. My barbies were in heaven. They only had one Ken though, so they had to share him. Made for an interesting Barbie household.

A new car!!!
. . . . . hahaha...YEA RIGHT!!! (I at those Holiday buy-your-wife-a-lexus commercials - they get to me) My favorite gift was a puppy. I got my first dog on Christmas Eve when I was 8, after having begged for a dog for two years! They didn''t put it in a box or anything (remember Lady and the Tramp ), but my mom put a red ribbon around her neck and gave her to us on Christmas Eve. It was so fun and my brother and I were jumping around with excitement - great memory.

Ok don''t barf, but it was the diamond and sapphire ring that my dad and I surprised my mom with when I was 12ish. (Clearly I was a PSer before there was a PS!) It came from Hannoush, was set in yellow gold and had an inky-black oval sapphire with I think two flanking diamonds. When she thought she was all done opening presents we surprised her again with a necklace to match. To this day I truly don''t know if she liked either gift but her reaction made my Christmas!

It''s hard to describe, but it was a large infant doll with a white christening gown and bonnet with a ceramic face in a peaceful sleep. I opened another present and my Dad told me to look at the doll. It was wide awake with a smile. This is a ceramic head with no moving parts. I thought she was sleeping, but maybe with all the Christmas commotion I was simply mistaken. Then after a few more presents I went back to the doll and it had a crying face with a glossy tear rolling down her cheek. My Dad could tell I was beyond confused so he took the bonnet off and it was one ceramic head that rotated around to show each of three faces through the bonnet. I was seven and I loved that doll. My parents still have it.

Mary... I was 7 that Christmas. It was the year before my Mom passed away. My Auntie made her.. she came with a hat, two dresses, two long jackets to match, two pair of shoes and a nightgown & nightcap (*eta, pantaloons!). I only have this dress and the nightgown left.. her eyes have come off.. her lips are gone and she's missing so much of her hair and she needs her neck fixed.. but she was very loved & kept me company while my Mom was so sick. I love this doll more than anything I've ever received. Mary will turn 36 this Christmas.

I got my engagement ring from DH on Dec 23 1997.
Another gift that I loved was my Cabbage Patch Kid. I was in 2nd grade. My grandma got CPK''s for all of her granddaughters and then made basket beds to match each girls room. We all walked into the dining room together and we all went to the doll that belonged to us. Grandma also made several outfits for each doll. Mine blond haired green eyed doll had a "bed" dressed in yellow eyelet. She had a white and yellow pants outfit and a gorgeous yellow dress. She also had a mint green dress and pink pjs. |

Mine was probably when I was about 8 years old. A hand built dollhouse by my Dad, complete with 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a finished "attic", wrap around porch, and individually hand-glued shingles on the roof. And lots of furniture and accessories of course were my other presents that year!
My dad built it in a conference room at his office and slaved for weeks after work and on weekends. It was an absolute surprise to see it covered with a tablecloth on our kitchen table on Christmas morning. I''ll never forget how special that was and how much hard work and love he put into building it for me! |

Such a cute idea for a thread. One Christmas when I was probably 7 or 8, I wanted a Cabbage Patch Kid sooo much. We got to open one gift on Christmas Eve and I just *knew* it was going to be my gift. Well, I opened it up and it was pajamas. My dad said something like he tried and tried to find my doll, but they were sold out everywhere. I just remember feeling sad, but trying not to look it. Then after we were finished, my dad asked me to run out to the garage to look in his car for the newspaper he left in there. When I opened the door, the cabbage patch kid was in there with a huge bow! I was very excited that year!

Haha, I looked out the window every year from 15-18 for a new car with a big red bow on it, but no such luck!!! |

I was about 8 or 9. I had only asked for one thing for Christmas, an EZ-2-Do Twist n Swirl. It was this pan with paints you floated on top of a liquid, swirled around into patterns, and then transferred to paper or fabric. I had opened all my presents and I hadn''t gotten it and I was so upset! And then my sister (who was 6 or 7 at the time, so of course my mom had purchased my present from her, but she picked it out) handed me the one from her. And there it was...my Twist n Swirl! There are pictures of my CRYING MY EYES OUT that morning when I opened it.
Makes me smile just thinking about it. |

This is reaaaaaally hard. I''m an only, so there were quite a few amazing Xmas gifts as a kid, and DH doesn''t do too shabby at Xmas, either.
I think the one I''ll always remember was the year my parents wouldn''t let me pierce my ears. On Christmas, I opened up the last gift and my dad handed me a tiny box. I started bawling, pointing out that the earrings were pierced and I couldn''t wear them. My parents started laughing and handed me a little letter in a scroll telling me they were taking me to the mall the next day. |

I have 2. When I was a child, I think 5 yrs old, I had a Teddy Rockspin ( I think that''s what he was called...) and I loved him! He had a book he would read out to me and tell a story. He was my all time favorite toy! I loved him so much, that I took him outside and played in the mud with him and he broke. He didn''t speak ever again, but I still loved him!
I got my siberian husky puppy when I was 21 and he''s the bestest and most loved Christmas present even more loved than my teddy. My husky''s 6 yrs old now. |

Argh, I''m jealous!!! Hahahaa! When I was ready to go en pointe my mom wouldn''t let me. I think she knew I was going to be very tall (she was right) and she said she didn''t want me to ruin my feet. I was already having ingrown toenail issues. But I LOVED ballet and continued dance lessons through high school...toe shoes are just the most beautiful things ever, and so "girly". You lucky! |
