The other thread got me thinking. House insurance can have hidden things that you need to know to look for. Same for car insurance, disability insurance, and pretty much every other type I'm familiar with.

Until this year, I never had anything worth insuring. Now I need to make sure that we have coverage either through adding on to our homeowner's policy or through a separate jewelry policy.

So, what do you look for when selecting a jewelry policy?
What, if any, details do you look at extra carefully?
What is your idea of good coverage?
What sort of fine print asterisks do you look for?

Does homeowner's insurance work as well or are there problems?
If you have to make a claim, does it increase your house insurance?

ETA: spelling correction

I looked for coverage for loss of value, i.e. damage, as well as loss or theft. So major repairs would be covered if I needed them.

I have an agreed upon value clause. I basically get what my appraisal says. I know I'm paying more than I need to. I can live with it.
