Hi folks,

I am looking at buying studs for my second piercing. I wear my 1.2 ctw (.56 each) studs in the main piercing. The choices I am considering are:

.50 ctw studs (.25 each) or
.60 ctw studs (.30 each)

Which do you think would be better? I currently wear plain gold balls in the second piercing and I have in the past worn WF .25 ctw studs but those are too teeny for me. In fact, they are for sale on LT and DB.

I intend to purchase from WF. If I go with the .50 ctw, I can get the ready-set-go whereas if I go with .60 ctw, I would individually pick 2 stones and the price difference is quite a bit.

Here is a pic Brittany sent me. In the photo, she is wearing a 1 ctw pair and a .50 ctw so the sizes are smaller but the proportions are correct if I were to buy .60 ctw studs.

What do you guys say? TIA! I'm hoping to get it right at the first go as I hate having to ship back and forth.

I've just voted for 0.60. There is quite a lot of space between the two holes so I think 0.60 ctw would look good.

I am voting for the .50s, because I like a little more graduation between my studs, and because I have a piercing in just that spot, too, and it looks funny to me when I try on anything bigger than 4.5mm. I also find it's more useful to me to think in millimeters than carat weight ... the width of the bezel is going to make much more of a visual difference then the +/- .10 points, I think!

Thanks for your opinions, guys!

Circe, I just looked up the measurements...

My 1.2 ctw studs are 5.33 x 5.37 x 3.27 AND 5.35 x 5.38 x 3.31 mm

A sample .30 I am looking at measures 4.30 x 4.34 x 2.67

WF's .25s measure 4.10 mm (uncertified stones)

If it helps, settings-wise, I will be getting 8 prongs in wg, as my current studs are also 8 prongs and I love the look.

I really don't think you can see the visual difference between a 4.34mm and a 4.10mm, so I would probably choose the 0.50 ctw ones.

I am currently wearing a pair of 0.60-0.66 ctw earrings (they were my wedding gift from MIL, so I never actually asked her about the weight) in my second hole, and I do like the size though. I wear them with my huggies. and a pair of 0.25ctw tiny studs on my third hole.

Circe is right, it's not about carat size, it's about millimeters and proportions/contrast with what you already have. Have you tried on different sizes? The bigger carat size might go too low on your earlobe, unless you don't mind it hanging over. You have a lot of space between the holes, so you don't have to worry about them rubbing each other.
I would really try some cheapies before ordering anything. I have three holes in my left ear and very little real estate, so it took me some time time to find the right sizes

I voted for the smaller pair, and think you can even go smaller. I have second piercings and wear .25ctw studs. They still get in the way of some earrings! But I'm voting with thinking that a second piercing is the type of piercing that you put in the studs and never take them off.

Thanks guys.

Texaskj, I will go to the store tonight and look in the cheapie costume jewelry section. They always have cz studs so I will try to find the two sizes :sun:
