Some elderly people can just be crazy, and mean, and violent. The dad and kid could have been perfectly rational, and Grandpa not in his right mind started shooting. So, maybe the kid did act in self defense. And he used the shotgun, so that gave him the best chance of surviving and taking out a crazy Grandpa. If you've never experienced a violent elderly person with dementia, you just can't fathom the kind of problems that those people can cause, and how violent and irrational they can become. Even toward family members that they claim to love. Irrational is irrational. I cam truly picture a situation that began as a verbal argument, and nobody was bowing to Grandpa, so he decided to get a gun and shoot his son, etc., because he's violent and nucking futz.

The Port Richy story, the horror is that there are home invasions, and that 911 screwed up royally. Am I going to cry over dead home-invaders? Heck, no. Shoot 'em all!

What a shame. There was an incident in Illinois recently where a mother and her two sons were all shot during a family argument. The family were meeting at her home to plan a memorial service for another brother/son who had drown the week before. An argument took place. One brother shot and killed the other, with one of the bullets grazing the 81 year old mother. The brother then shot himself and died about a week later in the hospital. This poor woman lost all three of her sons within a couple of weeks.
