Hi everyone!
It''s time for me to get back to work. It''s nice staying home with my daughter but my husband has been throwing the "Get a real job." line in my face & I dont like depending on him. Here is my issue (Besides my Husband) casinos don''t disclose wage up front. You apply online, meet with a H.R. rep, then hopefully get an interview with the director in the dept. for which you are interested in. When is appropriate to ask about pay? can I ask the H.R. rep? I dont want to waste my time interviewing for a position that doesn''t/may not meet my minimum pay requirement. Thanks

Ask. It never hurts you to find out. I worked HR and I know how it can be. But I would just ask the starting wage or salary is. I would also find out if any experience you have is worth extra compensation.

Well so far the one casino I have tried refuses to tell me what the pay is per hour. I called the department I am interested in first & spoke to a manager who told me they would not disclose the pay, then called a H.R. rep who told me they couldnt tell me & transferred me to the employment center who in turn told me I would not find be able to find out the wage unless I was offered the position. What a bunch of B.S. I refuse to waste my time apply, interviewing etc... to only find out the job might only pay $8 for example.

Perhaps instead of asking what they''ll pay you could ask for pay range or share your pay requirements and ask if they can meet your pay needs of $X per hour/month/year.

Thanks Kimberly thats exactly what I had to do. It took me a few calls & one cooperative person to tell me what I needed to know. I got an email this morning through Jobflash asking me to set an appt. when I logged in I got a message saying they tried to contact me (Auto-Email) but there are no appointments left. See, this is a sign I should just stay home, lol.

I was at my last job 6 years & have been out of work since 6/2005 I am so scared but excited at the same time to get back to work.

I have no experience in your industry, but just finishing grad school and interviewing for jobs, I also found that you have to go all the way through the process to find out the pay rate and also the approximate work hours. It stinks but I guess for more "professional" jobs there is this little game that you have to act like you want the job so much, you''ll go for whatever wage and schedule they offer - at least in my industry where there are not a lot of jobs. For example I got an offer at what I thought was my dream job only to find (at the end) that the salary was much less than I thought, and the work hours very long. If they had told me this up front it would have saved their time and mine! Turns out this particular group has a difficult time hiring and retaining employees, I wonder why!
Anyway good luck with your job search!!!

That's exactly what I would do too. If most casinos wouldn't tell you the salary until you get an offer, at least tell them what your salary expectation is. If it's too high, they probably won't bother interviewing you.

Good luck with the job search VegasAngel!
