One day post LASIK and seeing 20/20.

Procedure was a bit grosser than I anticipated. Apparently I have small orbitals so they had to try for suction several times. The nurse really went out of her way to keep me calm.

Still some pain today due to the suction issues.

Overall still very happy I did it!

Do you find yourself reaching up to the bridge of your nose to adjust your mom existent glasses?
I catch myself doing it at least once a day!

Kelinas, I actually am still wearing glasses. My surgeon insisted that I wear safety glasses for the first week.

Watched the world cup and could see the score and time so that is amazing.

The issue with the suction was pretty traumatic. Took 5 tries to insert the ring in my right eye and apply suction before it actually worked. I'm happy with the results, but don't know if I could handle it all over again.

Poor DH was excited to ask me all about it in the recovery room and I sort of hissed at him to stop talking and just hold my hand.

I'm so sorry you had such a rough experience with the suction! Hubby was with me too, and even though my experience was ok, I still cried uncontrollably after, and he had to just hold my hand and rub my back.

I still have moments, 2 1/2 months later, where I'm just in awe that these are my eyes, and I can see all on my own!

Gosh, I wish I could get myself over the mental hurdle to try LASIK. I'll confess that being a contact lens wearer has been so easy for me that it's hard to contemplate a surgery that could annoy the crap out of me with the troublesome night vision issue; it just hasn't seemed worth the risk when I'm happy in contacts.

I find myself adjusting the most when my eyes are dry. My vision gets a bit off by my standards andi think its because the lens are either dirty or too far down. Lol.
Manderz - how long did your ophthalmologist have you on drops?
Mine prescribed me 3 months worth of preservative free tears and anti inflammatory drops. Told me to use the anti drops 4 times a day, and I'm reading that using these drops can make your intra ocular pressure go up....so I've been only using it twice aday.

"A" was taught how to use condoms yesterday at school. It was taught by the science teacher as part of the "human systems" science unit that (supposedly) only covers the digestive system.

Um.....

Wouldn't that have made more sense in the health class? Maybe during the reproductive system unit?


I'm torn on whether I think the school should or shouldn't teach such things (I can see very valid arguments for either) and we would not have requested her left out of the unit. I do wonder how many other parents have a strong view on this and would have liked notification....

Chemgirl and Aljdeway: Thank you for the condolences.

Aldjeway: I wore hard contact lenses for years and years. I have a wonderful optometrist, and he worked with me to get the fit and prescription just right so the correction was just what I wanted (bi-focal, no less) and I barely noticed that the contacts were even there. (I reserved the soft lenses for vacation and such since they didn't correct my vision as well as the hard lenses did.) The hard lenses did always cause some redness in one eye, but I put up with that. I didn't turn to the lasik until I developed a condition in one eye that made it hard to wear the rigid lenses and forced me to wear glasses much if not all of the time.

That said, I don't regret having had the lasik done. I don't even remember the procedure itself except that it went by very quickly. The doctor that did my lasik has you come in a half hour or more before the procedure to take a valium pill so that you're nice and relaxed by the time they do it... and they require that you come with a driver so you're not driving after the procedure.

I hope you at least got a foot massage out of them too. It was the Valium treatment you were after, not the two glasses of wine treatment!

A friend of mine was recently back in Berkeley visiting his dad who had just had a stroke. He (dad) was emotionally labile, somewhat aphasic and had no short term memory. My friend (a food scientist who has often said how much he misses the produce in Berkeley) told me that he fed his dad his first apricot, five times.
I felt I had walked into an Oliver Sacks book; poignant, yet charming.

I just keep getting this stabbing shooting pain on the left side of my chest (breast)

I would typically shrug it off, but its been consistent for a few days, and I just had a friend pass away from ovarian cancer a week ago...so I'm a bit freaked out. I never thought that I would worry about any of this at my age - but I see that ignorance is naive.


I really hope I'm just overreacting.

Goodluck Kelinas. The good news is that my surgical oncologist says that while breast cancer can hurt in some cases, the vast majority of the time it doesn't. Here's hoping it's just costochondritis, which does hurt, but can be managed with a bit of physio!

On a related note my breast saga continues. My doctor says I have a fibroadenoma, but referred me to a specialist for a second opinion since my mom had breast cancer at w young age. Specialist said everything OK, but wanted his radiologist to look over my file. He did warn me that the radiologist might want additional images. I didn't hear anything for 3 weeks so assumed it was fine and went on life as normal. Well guess who called half an hour before my laser eye surgery the other week. Now going in for yet another mamo and ultrasound this afternoon. Hope I get the all clear today. Too much stress.

All is well. Had to redo all of the testing because fibroadenoma wasn't showing up. Apparently its not there. Weird. Had 3 people doing scans including radiologist. So yey.

Kelinas - That is too funny! On a serious note though, it might be a great time to venture into alternative medicines to see if your body and mind react well to them! I've noticed a huge difference in my ability to relax with meditation and essential oils. Just a thought.

It's 5 am. I've been up for 2 hours. It's time for this kid to get out. But I have a month left.
