When we lived in the states we had a wonderful part time nanny help me with the kids. She was absolutely amazing and sometimes she would bring her little cousin to play with my son since they are both the same age. He was a sweet little boy, so well mannered and loved to play with my son. We found out very late last night that the little boy went to spend the night at his grandmother's house. In the middle of the night someone for whatever random reason fired on the house. He was hit and as of this morning is brain dead. He is only 3 years old.

In the last 18 months we have watched 4 other friends lose their children, I think everything is finally getting to me and I'm having my long needed emotional breakdown today about it. My heart just hurts for the families and I want to wrap up my own children and protect them though I know I can't against everything in the world. Please keep the "W" family in your prayers or thoughts today. I know they need it. I can't imagine how hard the next few hours are as they say goodbye to their son.

Sending lots of hugs to you and your friends. I'll be thinking of them.

Oh, god.

I'll be praying for the 'W' family... and I'll be thinking of you, your DH, and your little ones.
I know it isn't nearly enough, that there really isn't anything that can soothe that sort of pain and heartbreak, but here's a ::HUG:: for the night :(sad

SB - It's so hard to read your post. The W family will be in my prayers, as will you and yours.

I saw "The Lunchbox" tonight. It's an Indian film set in Mumbai, told partly in English and partly in Hindi with English subtitles. It's well-told and beautifully acted story that seems to just unfold, one lovely petal at a time. My (male) friend and I both enjoyed it thoroughly. If you have a chance to see it - do!

(I know it's been out for awhile, but apparently it's just now coming around to my small city.)

Thank you everyone. He passed away late last night once his daddy got there (he was out of town due to work). Heaven just got another little angel :(sad I think I have moved from denial and sadiness and am now on the pissed off stage. I'm sure some of you might have noticed that comments that would normally not trigger a response from me on PS are instead just getting under my skin. Do I qualifiy for a emotional poster therapy group?

Oh, SB, I am so sorry. I cannot imagine losing a child. But to lose him that way is just about the worst way imaginable. Praying for all of you. Do go wrap your kids up tight and give them extra kisses.

It's FIL's 60th tomorrow and a obody planned anything so we are bringing over a cake. It's one of those times where I have to see him.

Last time he was over he let a random dog into our house and made fun of DH for wearing sunscreen. Questionned his sexuality and all that because "real men don't wear sunscreen".

I will be trying to make it through the day without calling the man an idiot.

Good luck, chemgirl - sometimes it's a real struggle to hold your tongue. You need to have a bottle of wine chilling at home for afterwards. :))

I had an awards dinner last night and it was lovely. There were 4 awards presented to second year students and I received two of them - top pathology student and top overall student for my entire year. It was a very pleasant surprise -- especially when they handed me two $500 prize checks! I'm going to pop the money in a term deposit for now, in case I manage to win any more over the final 2 years of the degree - then when it's all done, I'll buy myself a nice piece of celebratory bling.

Woot! Congrats justginger! I hope you win many more! Selfish since I really just want to see the pictures of whatever you pick. You have an eye for special bling.

I'm currently stalking the 0.93 cut O Octavia on the GOG website. Would make a great rose gold pendant. I wouldn't be able to walk away from the mirror wearing that.

Unfortunately when I showed DH the listing for a potential anniversary gift he got sticker shock.

Great minds! I've given that stone a lot of thought, and I know it would be just beautiful...but I've turned into a size wh*re. It would look gorgeous in rose gold though!

Chemgirl, TooPatient, missy, justginger, junebug and Sharon

I have great news

Through the power of PS and your magic magic dust.....

I passed my exam!!!

I'm still in a state of shock, that was the hardest most stressful exam I've ever done and I studied every spare hour for a solid 8 months. I can't believe it's all finally over. I keep feeling like I should still be studying and not on PS LOL. :cheeky:

I want to thank you all for your support and for keeping me in your thoughts. I really, really appreciate it.

I'm gonna need a looooong holiday now!

JG: congrats on your prizes, very well deserved and I'm not even the slightest bit surprised that you won two!

Is it normal for people to take your new car out for a joyride?

It was FILs 60th yesterday and it was pouring rain most of the day. Because of this we used my car since its all wheel drive. FIL hadn't seen the car yet so he was eager to check it out. That part is fine. The part that I wasn't OK with was when he turned to DH and said "I can't wait to open this baby up on the old highway". Meaning an old, unused piece of road where people go to race etc.

No asking me if he can take it around the block, just assuming that he and DH would take MY car out for a joyride.

To complicate things FIL is hugely in debt and asks us for money. If something happened he would expect me to cover the damage.

Anyway I said I wasn't comfortable with them taking my car and DH backed me up on that.

Now getting angry Facebook messages from various aunts and cousins telling me how rude I was for not letting him take my car.

Ugh family.

Chemgirl -- Um.... No!

My mother had a collector's car for a bit but no one ever asked to drive it. Ever. People she was close to and knew loved old cars would sometimes be offered a ride. As in my mother would offer and they would sit in front passenger seat while she drove.

Junebug, you are the best. Thank you so much for keeping me in your good thoughts. You are right that health wise I am not faring well but I am remaining strong emotionally because that's the only choice I really have. The specialists are still trying to figure it out and I am scheduled this coming Thursday for 2 invasive tests that of course concern me because not sure I will be able to physically tolerate them. .I am not sure about doing them because of that and also not sure it will be helpful regarding my diagnosis and treatment options. I just started a thread here to see if anyone knows anything about them. The procedures are called Manometry and 24 hour impedance testing.

I appreciate you checking in on me Junebug...sending hugs your way.

Thanks TooPatient.

I was really taken aback that he assumed he could take my car out without asking me. FIL is very old school and believes that everything in a marriage belongs to the man. So it's not my car, DH just let's me drive it

The thing is that if I was blocking my sister in the driveway and she needed to run to the store or something I would offer up my car no problem.

I just feel this is different.

DH and I share finances, but certain things are still seperate. Like we have our own cars and our own laptops etc. I payed off my student loan and received a promotion last month. We agreed to use some of that money to replace my car. So it is our car, but still my baby.

At what point do you say the food poisoning is so bad you need to see a dr? Is there anything they do other than give you fluids if you're dehydrated?

I'm doing a bit better this morning. Keeping down some water if I sip slowly. Even managed a bit of yogurt. Still have everything flushing through one end but I'm at least not throwing up still.

Got bad enough last night that I lost 7 1/2 pounds...

So do I just wait it out or do I need a dr?

TooPatient: not a doctor but I think if you can keep some food down and are hydrated then they won't do much. Or at least that seems to be the case with my doctor. Last time I had it they gave me iv fluids and sent me on my way. They did tell me to make sure I was getting electrolytes.

You might want to try some florastor for your indigestion. I find that usually helps me and recommended by my GI specialist.

Eta: just noticed that you lost 7.5 pounds. Eek! OK maybe get checked out.

TP Feel better honey!
Missy you are still in my prayers and sending healing dust your way. I hope they find out soon what is going on with you.

While we are all talking about health I'm having my own mini melt down again this week. My little 3 year old could use some prayers. We are having some minor health scares that could have lifelong consequences for him. We should find out hopefully (if the clinic EVER gets their act together) in the next day or so. I'm a total mess either way. I just want to know what is going on with my little one ;(

TooPatient, how are you doing this morning? I hope you are feeling better. You might need to get IV fluids if you are still not able to drink/eat and if so then you should get to the doctor's office as dehydration is dangerous. Sending you healing vibes!
