FYI, this method really works. Well. Had to use it on my MIL after she broke her humerus a few weeks ago. She's doing very well, and says she's in no pain from it. I had to do it twice becuase the first time I didn't wrap the elastic tight enough, and then when I pulled it, the ring spun in place instead of off. I did it tighter and more evenly a few minutes later, and it worked great. I don't know if it helped or not, but I asked her to take advil about 1/2 an hour before attempting, and ice her hand for about 10 minutes immediately before.

I've done this several times in A&E, patients were very grateful not to have rings cut off, one of them burst into tears!

It only works if the skin of the finger remains intact, otherwise the compression would be v painful.

A great tip!

Thanks, but who or what is 'our'?
