None. My dad used to have one when we were new to the U.S. and then my sister had a party and someone stole it. No good.

Zero. My FCD collection, a delectable crime target, is kept in a bank vault. My close friend who lives in Brooklyn New York does not want a gun and was once asked why. His response was rather remarkable. He said, "My best defense is my own mind". Last edited by kenny on July 24th, 2012, 3:49 pm, edited 2 times in total.

I'm sorry, but are you not allowed to own guns there? If so is there less crime, or more because of it? A popular saying in America is, "When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns". Do criminals in England ever manage to get their hands on guns? Was public gun ownership ever allowed in England? If so, how did they purge them from the public's hands? |

Ditto. DH is a deputy sheriff and was in the Marines, so guns are a big part of his (and now my) life. |

I think four. But only three are here at the house. It's felt a little creepier since we found out our 1-house-away neighbor committed suicide via shotgun in his garage. If it were my solo choice, I'd have one or none.

Certainly over one hundred-my husband is a collector. Many are antiques. All but two are in a specially built secure room. He seems to be selling off guns now to buy more motorcycles. He likes to point out to me that the guns appreciate in value, unlike diamonds.

Yes to this (minus the 100+) You don't have be a survivalist, racist, paranoid, OR live in a war zone to own more than a few guns. There are many reasons - historian/collector would be the primary one in our house. A passion for history, things mechanical and machined, target shooting, and 15 years in the gun business can help the final number along. Of course, that said, the old-time collectors like my husband are harder and harder to find, because decently made modern guns or ones with a significant history are also harder to find (as I'm sure your husband would attest). The gun shows now are full of cheap (yet obscenely expensive) plastic Rambo crap and the people those guns appeal to. And yes, my husband sold off a few of his better collector's pieces a couple of years ago, and aiii! The money we got! Appreciate they have indeed! For the record, I haven't actually shot any firearm in over 20 years. I don't see evildoers lurking around every bush, we don't have a loaded anything in our home, I despise the NRA, and I'm very against concealed AND open carry except by law enforcement. What would be more interesting would be to know, of who owns guns, how many are from predominantly rural/aricultural states, and how many are from mostly urban population-dense states. That's where I see the largest divide. That or west vs east. Of course the sample here will be too small, but still...interesting. |

I read something the other day about someone who keeps Oven Cleaner in their car as a "mace substitute"! Thought that was clever but the spray wouldn't be as far away from the spray-er as most mace is. They'd probably gas THEMSELVES as much as the attacker now that I think about it more!

You'd be surprised! I imagine most people who DO have guns don't really go around talking about it socially. Unless they are hobbyist hunters or something.

We have an antiique rifle mounted for show, no bullets. I have a Derranger (SP) handgun that Nanny gave me. No bullets. Another rifle is here belonged to my grandfather but again no bullets.
I don't like guns. I wish there were stricter rules about buying semi autmotic guns and selling 6000 rounds of amo. I have been held up at gun point twice, so I know what it's like to have a gun pointed at your head. This was when I worked at a high end jewelry store in Philadelphia. |

We have two... An assault rifle and a handgun. They are my husband's (he is in the military and frequently practices his shooting at the range), but I know how to operate them and I like keeping the handgun handy since my husband is frequently away.

Zero guns. When I lived in South Africa my dad had a couple of hand guns but thankfully we live in Sweden now so it is not necessary.
I don't shoot myself (freaks me out) but I have no problem watching my SO. Even found it funny when he impressed some military instructors in Thailand, although not so funny when our military come around. I am really happy to be living in a country with responsible weapons policy (IMO, I know that the US is highly individualistic so some of you will disagree with that). I found it to be pretty nerve raking to live in a country with a lot of unregulated gun ownership. I don't have an issue with gun ownership per say, I do have an issue with the lack of control that exists in many places and that leads to so many unnecessary deaths . Control does not mean outlawing guns, it means reducing easy access and people killed by guns.

9+. JD is leaving for work now and doesn't have time to tell me what they all are, but he said semi automatic rifles, handguns, bolt action rifles and pump shot guns. I've shot some of them. More often now when he's trading in or getting a new gun, he gets ones that would be easier for me to shoot. He's also got his service weapon (police officer) but I don't know what it is.

That would be nada, zip, zilch.
I know that will surprise a few posters. After all, we Texans have a rep. And can legally carry concealed weapons. But, I have no fascination with firearms, and DH has less. Besides, DH would, without a doubt, shoot himself accidentally if we had one. A wife knows these things. I don't allow power tools either. I like my husband with all (5) appendages intact.
