My beloved bed is on it's last legs after one too many moves. I've fallen in absolutely LOVE with this one:

http://www.zincdoor.com/p/Bennett-Luxe-Bed__RH003.aspx But spending 2,290.00 (the tarnished silver color adds 300 to the price) is more than I can (probably) justify, and 1990 for a black bed is insanity to me.

I found this similar bed, but it only comes in Queen (not just on Overstock, the manufacturer doesn't make it in Eastern King), and I need an Eastern King. http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Aria-Queen-size-Bed/6613779/product.html

I don't really care what color it is. I can have it painted to any color I want if I get it at a good enough price (under 1200), but black is preferred (cause if it's black I may not paint it at all).

Can any of you help me find a similar bed that DOES come in an Easten King?

Your thanks much appreciated. :wavey:

Couldn't you get someone to make that for you?

A carpenter in the yellow pages, maybe under furniture maker or cabinetry?

It looks pretty darn easy, and within your budget. Especially if it's painted wood, no fancy woods to pay for.

I'd call around, email the photos and get some estimates.

That's such a gorgeous bed! The manufacturer I discovered in my search is Redford House:
http://redfordhouse.com/Beds/beds/Bennett-Bed-Luxe#.UFg9o46SOFU

Trying to find stuff for you is pretty difficult considering you're such an expert shopper!

Here are some options I found. They are 4 posters though and still quite expensive :(
http://www.bassettfurniture.com/Queen-Poster-Bed-DZ30491.asp
http://www.ethanallen.com/product?productId=1312&categoryId=8028

This is different but pretty:
http://www.wayfair.com/Zocalo-Monaco-Salon-de-Paris-Bed-in-Dark-Walnut-140X-ZOL1009.html

I wonder if we can find the manufacturer's name of that Overstock Queen. Then, we could see if it's made in a King.

Hi Gypsy,

I posted a question on Overstock, asking if the bed comes in an Eastern King, so we'll see what they say.

That said, I just made an upholstered headboard with a similar shape to what you're looking for. I went with MDF since I was covering it in batting/fabric, but I agree with iLander. It should be pretty easy for any handyperson with a jigsaw to cut out this shape for you. The most time consuming part is cutting/attaching the trim to give the headboard the finished look. The bed rails are pretty easy too and Home Depot sells legs that could be attached at the bottom. Spray paint it (for a much smoother finish) or find a cabinet shop who can spray it for you and my bet is that you could have your dream bed for about $600.

Yenny and Lilia-- I tried both those routes, but thanks so much! The maker of the Overstock bed is Aria, and they don't make it in King. I checked with them directly and with Overstock as well.

ILander (and Yenny)-- I did check out a couple yesterday as a matter of fact, and believe me, it's an option I'm seriously exploring. I'd like to avoid it if possible though.

Cluless-- Thanks so much for that website. I did find a couple of things that are interesting.

What I am looking for-- no upholstery (all wood) bed with contemporary/transitional style. Sleek and not fussy. With that particular shape to the headboard and either no footboard or a slow slung one that doesn't go over the top of the mattress. I'm okay with 4 poster, and have one now that I love.

The one you pulled up is great in terms of price and size but its much more traditional than I want. But honestly if I chopped off those balls, and painted it black, it might be a strong contender because of the price. http://www.homelement.com/Bedroom-Furniture/Beds/Houghton-Bed-Homelegance-p-37421.html

This one for example is close. It's a little too traditional in terms of the molding and scroll work on top of the headboard. But if it was black (or silver) at that price I'd probably go for it. http://www.homelement.com/Bedroom-Furniture/Beds/Evolution-Scroll-Top-Platform-Bed-Legacy-Classic-p-27266.html

If this one had the right shape to the headboard I would be head over heels: http://www.homelement.com/Bedroom-Furniture/Beds/Kasler-Bed-Homelegance-p-41024.html

Narwal... lots of options there. I wish those upholstered ones would work because they are exactly the right shape! This one is interesting in particular though: http://www.amishinteriors.com/amish-bedroom-furniture/amish-shaker-ridge-bed.html

On that site, this is the closest (though the same price as the original):
http://www.amishoutletstore.com/page.cfm?p=24147

And this one has potential: http://www.amishoutletstore.com/page.cfm?p=6337

I adore pencil post beds so that was a great website! Thank you! I'm actually going to email them to see if they will do that Lancaster one, but without the four poster, cheaper, and in black. Worth asking.

Lovely options Lilia. I don't want anything upholstered so the first won't work for me. But the Ethan Allen Pencil Post might and the last one (that you liked) is beautiful.

I wonder if that Bennet one is cheaper elsewhere though. That Zinc Door site is expensive.

Ame, it's just another name for Standard King.

Keep the suggestion coming, please, they are really helping me A LOT!

Gypsy, I say if you can swing it, get the (first) bed you really want. None of the others are going to be like the real deal, and you'll probably always be comparing if you go with something else. That bed is GORGEOUS

Yeah I agree with Dani. I love the bed, and if I was in your situation, I'd just splurge and consider it a Christmas and birthday gift for both you and your husband. That might make it more justifiable. :cheeky: I'd be afraid that if you try to go with something similar but not the same or if you try to make it yourself, you might wish you had gone with the real deal.

My second suggestion:

If you're still on the fence, I guess it couldn't hurt to contact a few carpenters and show them pics of the one you want and have them price out a custom job.

Yenny, isn't it? If it wasn't for that AMAZING FINISH (which I know I can't get if I go the 'economy route') I wouldn't consider spending that much that bed. But OMG that finish is to die for. It's like house bling.

Dani (HI!!! :wavey: )
We'll see how finances go. I find out this week if the job I've been at (which I really like) has the funding to go permanent. If it does-- finances are a lot friendlier and after I replace the dining room chairs and the living room recliner-- this will be my next splurge. If not... it will all have to wait till much later on.

Cluless-- I've been trolling Craigslist. If I find something close enough at a decent price believe me... that's my first preference. Off to check out that site you posted! Thank you sweetie!

Saw this thread a couple of days ago & didn't have time to sleuth but wanted to come back & say that I really like that "silver" finish you've been eyeing. Can one have a Finish Crush? Cuz I think I do. (As someone who is aching that we might need to part with our Anthropologie distressed silver/pewter velvet sofa after 15 yrs.)

That's tempting. I have to go to JCP tomorrow anyway. Might have to see if they have this one. It's very traditional, but... with some modification and some paint. Might work. Definitely priced right for modification.

Good find honey!

Deco-- yes, you can share my finish crush. I'm in love with it but.... Oy 2200 is a LOT since the design isn't all that complicated. I do adore that finish though.

My issue is that I also need to replace my dining chairs. And that's gonna set me back 650-950 already (depending which design I chose) so... I'm wanting to do this cheaply. I have to rearrange some of my bedroom furniture this weekend anyway though. So I'll get a better idea just how urgent the bed replacement is once we get our mattress off the frame. Last time I checked though, the kitties were in danger of becoming pancakes as one the supports were giving out, soI stuck storage bins under there so if it does collapse it doesn't squish anyone who might be hang out. And the kitties are a priority over anything else. I already replaced several of the supports with much stronger ones. But it's gotten to the point that in order to make the bed safe, I have to permanently screw it all together. Then I can't move it. And we rent.

That's sad about your sofa. If you are just throwing it away, and if you are crafty at all, you can make a tree skirt for Christmas with the cushion fabric (I'm no where near motivated enough to do this, mind you...but thought I'd throw it out).

So... here's a contender.

http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/King-Panel-Bed/7194604/product.html I HATE the shell in the center of the top, but I could fix that. And the shapes of the posts, but again. Totally fixable.

It's much closer to the Marcel bed: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/King-Panel-Bed/7194604/product.html than the Bennet.

I think I can get it painted silver. Then use an antique silver over that. Total cost 250 for the alterations. It's an expensive bed. But... it will still save me: 1500- 2300= 800 in the bank.

I really dig it. Only concern is the footboard might be too high.
