Well, I suspect that they aren't called "FMPs" for nothing....

The question is better to WHOM? And for how long? And why? Truly high heels exact a terrible toll over time. I'm not sure how attractive bunions, heel spurs, sprained ankles and those shoes they make you wear after foot surgery are, but I guess that's irrelevant when yer tryin' to catch yerself a maaan!!

I don''t think they do much for my legs, I just I think they look silly. Disabling.

I do love high heels in the abstract and have a few pairs of really nice ones, but I prefer to look at them than to wear them, if I''m honest. I like my legs fine as they are, without having sore feet.

I must respectfully disagree with Jill Connor Browne too, because DH hates them, really really hates to see anyone wearing them. They make him cringe. One of the things that made him like me in the first place was the absence of high heels (I sort of hope he was attracted my personality too...)

My staple is ballet pumps. I really love them.

This reminds me of the high school girls you see in restaurants around Prom or Homecoming. I can''t help but laugh at them, but I feel bad for them too...they are trying sooo hard to look like women and end up looking like a toddler learning to walk!!!

This reminds me of the high school girls you see in restaurants around Prom or Homecoming. I can''t help but laugh at them, but I feel bad for them too...they are trying sooo hard to look like women and end up looking like a toddler learning to walk!!!

It takes a special woman to pull off high heels. This is why I avoid them - I look like the wobbling toddler!

I wear pretty high heels on a regular basis (4" to 5") and have no problem walking in them at all. I wore 5" heels on my wedding day, walked quite gracefully and danced for hours, and have the video to prove it!

I can''t remember ever having had a problem walking in heels. It wasn''t like I had to learn to do it or anything. When I was little I ran around the house in those plastic pink and purple heels they used to sell. A horrible toy, to be sure, but maybe that''s why I can easily walk in them now.

Well, enjoy them now ladies, because I''d bet some serious money you either will not often, or not at all, be wearing them at 45. Podiatrists cater almost exclusively to women for a reason. Now granted, I have foot problems not actually caused by bad shoes, but I was only able to wear heels for a few years before the corns and just the pain in general became too much to put up with. I don''t care how gracefully you walk in them, they are bad bad bad for your feet. Period. And of course, they just LOOK smashing though, don''t they?

As a certified old lady with foot problems, I am a big Naot fan. But at $160.00 a pop, I can''t go out and get as many pairs as I''d like....

ksinger--Oh, I know. My husband is a muscle specialist who specializes in foot function. I'm very blessed that I have him around to keep my body functioning. I think he's the main reason that I am able to wear such high heels without pain.

Are Naots less expensive in Israel? I know it's an Israeli company. If so, I wonder if we could figure out a way for my sister to bring some back for you . . . Hmmm.

Mrs. M.--You have unworn Jimmy Choos?! Are they uncomfortable? I've never tried a pair because they are just too far out of my price range.

High heels not only make a woman''s legs look better, but they often make her buttocks look better. If she is not muscular or well-endowed in her derriere, its being raised by the high

heels makes it look higher and more prominent. (I have noticed this on my daughter who is long and slim and favors high heels.) I do not advocate high heels; I just think that one of their attributes is to make

women''s legs and buttocks appear attractive. The price women pay for wearing them is often high, however!

2-3" heels definitely make my legs and butt look better. I can only wear them for so long, though, and any higher than that I feel like I'm walking on stilts - and look it, too!

AGREED!!! I don''t know WHY women who can''t walk in heels wear them - it''s a big pet-peeve of mine! Either hobbling or doing that clumpy sort of stomping walk - looks SO awful!

But, yes, back to the OP''s question - yes, they do make your legs look better.

Oh, yes, you can def. learn! I worked a job at a corporate headquarters where you had to dress up everyday. You have to wear heels with most dress pants or the cuff will drag on the floor (and I'm already 5'9"), but after a while I got to the point where I could run in heels if I had to, and started to feel very dressed down if I wasn't wearing them. It took a while to break the habit when I left that job. Now all my shoes are gathering dust that I used to wear daily - you get used to them for sure.

I can walk dance and even step dance in heels, but it is because I was a dancer, so I can move well in a variety of conditions.

They do make my legs look better and I find them much more comfortable than flats, but I buy the right kind, like soffts. I spent so much time on pointed toes that when I have shoes off, I walk that way without even thinking about it.

As for the dangers of it and old people, that has not been my experience. My feet were in much worse shape as a dancer than anything the heels can do to them. Second, the worst are the bony spurs at the back of the heels. They can be avoided by alternating betqween flats and heels, wearing heels with the right arch (which very few do) and certain streches and movements. I know, I look for those spurs as an occupational marker in my skelatal collection.

I know a number of old women who wear heels about 1 1-1/2 inches. It is their balance that keeps them from wearing higher, not their pain or injuries. The majority of problems I have seen are from people who are heavy and wear them, do not have much muscle, wear the wrong ones (the biggest problem) or do not know how to walk in them.

I wear 3" heels most workdays, and because I''m so short, I feel strange without them. I think they make my legs look leaner and my rear more peppy, but I wear pants almost exclusively, so I don''t really know why I force them upon myself.

I think I''m graceful enough in lower heels (har har), but higher heels - forget it!

Depends upon the shoes and the legs.

Also - depends upon what is being worn WITH the high heels. My favorite skirt ends right below my knees at exactly the right spot to give my calves nice definition when I''m in heels. If I wore the same heels with a skirt with a 5" inseam, well, not quite so sexy but more sleazyish (especially since I''m in my 30s).
