Do you have a certificate for your diamond? If so, what lab was it graded by?

Hate to tell you the bad news but your stone is not a H VS1 stone... :(sad ..can you trade it in for a GIA graded stone?

Not all labs grade stones to the same standard. EGL International is known to be very generous with how they grade stones. If you sent the same stone to EGL international and then to GIA, they could get drastically different results. Your VS1 EGL might get a grade of SI1 or worse at GIA. Same issue with colour and cut. It's unusual that a Stone with a visible black carbon spot would get a grade of VS1. At the VS1 level, usually the stone would be 'eye clean'.

EGL is known as a soft grader, since they use different standards but the same nomenclature as GIA. Some diamonds can grade two or three grades higher on EGL than GIA. This, however, reflects on price. EGL certified stones are usually cheaper than those with GIA certificates. If you compare a similar stone to yours with a GIA certificate, it will be more expensive.

Nope. Your prices are way out of date.

12K-13k is the price for a 1.5 Carat GIA H VS1 with a decent cut grade.

10k you are looking at I color and eyeclean. Usually 1.4 carats too, not 1.5.

Price-wise, it sounds like you didn't get ripped off but you also didn't get what you wanted.

How will getting an appraisal help? Sorry for my lack of understanding.

It will tell her exactly what she has. And maybe give her ammunition to get a refund or return.

lab issues aside for a second .. is it clean?
polishing compound from polishing the ring after setting on the diamond will look just like you describe and is sometimes hard to remove.
A good steam cleaning by a pro is often needed to remove it.

Here's a ACA for $10.8K, so was guessing $10K for a non branded GIA stone.

My thoughts too, start with that Vichy just in case it is a blob of polishing compound. If not, as you only bought the ring recently, I don't know if it might be possible to return it if you wish but there might be a chance, take it to be cleaned first.

Many congratulations on your engagement!

I will get this thread moved to Rocky Talk. :wavey:

I just got this ring 4 weeks ago so i havent hd it long for it to be dirty to the point where tou can see a black spot that wont go away, or am i wrong? Also im sure that the black spot is inside the diamond after taking a really good look at the ring :(

After you just got it would be when it would be most likely to have polishing compound on it.
After the benchman sets the diamond in the ring he gives the ring a final polish.
Sometimes the compound does not get totally removed from the diamond.
If its on the pavilion it can look like it is in the diamond.
I am not saying that is the case but it is certainly possible.

Isn't Whiteflash in Texas??

OP, I'd see what I had, and if it's not close to an H/VS1, then I'd push for a full refund and get the stone DF posted:
