Guess what--apparently the Orthodox council that decides such things has said that chemical leaveners are a-OK for passover. Apparently the Hebrew word "chometz" refers specifically to a sour taste which indicates yeast leavening only.
FI is not having it though, says he dislikes the Orthodox anyway and it takes the spirit out of the holiday. I thought for a minute and then said "Yes, well, I guess it does sort of take away all the deprivation--then what''s the point"
He cracked up an announced that I must have finally become a Jew by association. Anyway, happy seders tonight people! I must make a torte....(toddles off)
