Which piece should I have made in honor of my grandfather?

My dear grandfather passed away in the fall and left me a small legacy. I decided I''d like to use the money to get a jewelry piece in honor of his memory, and I''m really unsure about what to get. I''ve been debating for a couple weeks now, so I thought I''d get the input of my PS friends to help me choose.

Of the choices below, the frontrunners for me have been the necklaces. Years ago, my grandparents gave me a lovely .25 ct pendant, and it unfortunately was lost early last summer, so I''m thinking that maybe a replacement pendant might be an appropriate piece since my grandfather had given the one I lost to me. Then, I thought that maybe a stacker/eternity band might be appropriate to honor his eternal memory ("eternal memory" is a phrase sung many times in a Ukrainian funeral).

I''d love to hear any other ideas you all might have, too.

I like the idea of replacing the pendant.

You could have "eternal memory" or somthing significant to your grandfather engraved on the back.

I voted for the eternity band because I liked the link to the Ukrainian tradition. Then you could have it engraved with something special that reminds you of your grandfather.

I''m sorry for your loss. I think honoring him this way is such a nice idea.

I voted for bezel set pendant to replace the pendant that was lost. I like the eternity band idea and what it represents in Ukrainian culture, but I''m one of those who will typically go for a larger single stone over smaller multiple stones in a piece. .70 is a really great size for a solitaire pendant, imo!

I think no matter what you choose, Kittybean, jewelry will be a wonderful way to commemorate your grandfather with the legacy he left you. Very sweet.

Eternity band; you can have it engraved on the inside and it will become an heirloom piece. Or a colored stone ring with a color that reminds you of him, or his favorite color. I like the idea of having something different that stands out, something that is a little extra-ordinary to commemorate your grandfather.

I really like anything with a single diamond to represent your grandpa, so I picked the pendant. I think a solitaire would also be appropriate, but you didn''t ask about that

I voted for the pendant, because I love how it will replace a piece given to you by your grandparents. I do, however, really like the eternity ring idea as well. I say go for what you''ll a) use the most and b) not want to upgrade/stop wearing down the road.

I hope you find a piece that you cherish and reminds you of your late grandfather/parents.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather. I voted for the pendant. You can replace the one that was lost and wear it close to your heart.

If you dont have a pendant than I would get one to replace the one he gave you. No DBTY...a single stone
would better represent him. If you already have a pendant necklace that you like then I would go with
the eternity stacker.

I voted for the pendant to replace the one he gave you. You''ll be able to reach up and touch the pendant in eternal memory of him. Plus, it''s close to your heart just like he was.

One concern i have with an eternity band is if whoever you decide to pass the ring on to has different sized fingers it may not get worn if it can''t be resized. That would just be a concern of mine if I was creating a piece I knew I wanted to be passed down.

Hi Kitty, do you like my BGD pendant? I would suggest something like that... a nice high quality blingy piece. It''s quite reasonable for what it is, and I still get compliments on it weekly. Alternately, I love deco''s milgrained bezel pendant. Something that dresses up the pendant, that''s what I suggest. A pendant, for sure. But one that is kicked up a few knotches.

I love the idea of a bezel pendant. It''d replace the one he gave you and then you can engrave something in the back that symbolizes eternal in Ukraine. I think it''s a pretty good compromise.

I love the idea of a pendant. You can wear it for a long as you like and it''s the most flexible if you or someone who inherits it decides to change the setting. A nice sized stone allows for many possibilities.

There have been some very interesting pendants made with embellishments that can have meaning. A halo pendant could add to the eternity concept. Just a few ideas...

I''m with Gypsy and Swingirl -- I think a pendant with some additional elements would be lovely. One thought that immediately came to me when you mentioned the "eternal memory" saying was a pendant with two smaller diamonds, side-by-side, in an eternity symbol-shaped bezel. It may sound a little cheesy but I''m sure a good designer could come up with a way to make it look very classy. A halo would also be gorgeous, the pieces Swingirl linked to are great inspiration.

Many, many thanks to everyone for your suggestions and input.

I made my decision today. I am really, really excited, and I think this will be a wonderful wear-all-the-time piece that my grandfather would have loved to see on me.

Gypsy, I wanted to tell you that I really love your pendant. The design is so captivating. I''d love to have something like it, but I don''t think I could wear it every day, and I really wanted to make sure I could wear this piece daily, so I ended up picking something relatively simple (but beautiful, too, of course!).

I promise I will show it to you all as soon as it''s ready .
