Teal Sapphire for an E-Ring

Hi All,

I have been lurking on this forum for quite some time and seen you guys do awesome research. Mind helping me with mine? I am looking for a medium to dark teal (Green-blue) sapphire to fit in this setting. https://www.etsy.com/listing/215627268/blue-sapphire-engagement-ring-sapphire.. I have scoured the internet, but not with much luck. The budget is $1500 or less for the stone.

So they will be custom-making the setting for your stone, I assume? What size stone do you prefer? And do you specifically want to stick with oval or would you also consider cushion cuts? Could you provide a picture of what you mean by "teal"? I ask because there's a huge variety of blue/green or green/blue sapphires (which is what I imagine when someone says teal).

This isn't "teal" per say, but it's a montana sapphire, which tend to be cool in terms of having a variety of "personalities" and colors they display.

ETA: it's always easier to find a stone first and setting later. So if you haven't already purchased that exact setting I might find a stone you love first, and then get something very similar to that custom made. It might make the entire process much easier.

The link you provided stated the blue sapphire in its pictures is 8mm x 6mm, so the dimensions are pretty similar. Good luck with your hunt!

Definitely try to pick the stone out first, if you can. That way you don't get as stuck with a certain size - I think if you're bound to an 8x6 stone your budget is going to become a problem, especially if you're really bound to a specific color rather than a range.

I'm posting because I want to point out that this type of sapphire (a Montana, from mountain momma gems on etsy, who I would recommend), has some serious TEAL moments, but most of the time is a more muted, steel blue with hints of green (or sometimes pure green under LED lighting). It's pretty dark, too. But if mine is the kind of thing you might be looking for, it's a 6.5mm round and was about exactly what your budget is for the stone despite being smaller than what you're looking for.

Buying the setting first is really locking you into a MUCH more difficult stone search, between having to get a certain size and color for a budget.

As others have said, please find your stone first. It's much easier to get a setting to fit the stone, than vice versa. Here's another source you can check for Montana sapphires:

I bought a garnet from him last year, which he cut for me. So if he didn't have the size you were looking for, in the colour you want, maybe having one cut especially for you would be an option.
