Hello Pricescope users,

I am a new user, I have been reading through several posts and deciding between a couple different natural round sapphires. I think I've picked out two that might work for my necklace provided they are the right color and price :). Let me know what your opinion on the stones are. Based off everything I've read I think I want a natural unheated sapphire. I'm looking to surround the sapphire with small diamonds in my necklace.

Thank you!

The first one is the better of the two but it's showing some zoning or a window and the culet is way off center. The second one is a big no from me, cut, color and price are all poor. Assuming your price range is in the 3-4k window, I think you could do alot better than these two. ;))

Before you buy a sapphire, read this thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/new-to-coloured-gemstone-buying-read-this-first.174284/. It will give you a lot of help. Neither of those sapphires is as nice as you can do for that money -- the 1st one is very bad. You should also look for certification by a lab (AGL, Gubelin, GRS or AIGS) that it is unheated & untreated in other ways. A certificate from the vendor like the one shown is not much more than a marketing tool. A reputable vendor should be willing to send the stone, or to agree to take it back if you send it & it comes back not as presented.

Once you've read the thread on buying colored gems, take a look through the vendors on the one listing respected CS vendors -- they are ones people on this forum find reliable.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice guys, I really like the first one a lot more as well Greg, I thought the color looked pretty good for what I was looking for I guess I may need to do some more comparisons on price. I'm just not that familiar with the price ranges yet, my budget is max 4k. The size is just right for what I want though. I'll think about it some more :)
