Hi everyone, i'm really new to this forum and still pretty blind about gemstones. However, there is one gemstone that caught my interest, the star ruby. My mom gave me a ring as a graduation gift. It was amazing, and at the very center it was a small but beautiful (at least in my view) star ruby. I would like to learn more about the stones, but i still don't know what to consider when i want to buy another star ruby. Any expert would kindly share their expertise? (I'm a guy btw)

There are many "faked" star rubies in the world, worth a few dollars. Check eBay.

But yours might not be chemically enhanced, usually the star is much sharper in fake ones.

It's hard to find a genuine untreated one, but if you want to have it looked at and authenticated send it to AGL gem lab in NYC. For under $100 they can tell you the real story.

Welcome to the forum. Nice Mom you have there. It is hard to say much based on one photo, and it sounds like you are not looking for information on your ring/star ruby as much as on them in general, correct? Everything iLander said is spot on. But if you are looking for basic information, this is a good place to start and will tell you much about corundum such as yours:
