I have been meaning to post this ring for a while & excuse the blurry pics.

It is a 1 carat oval hot pink sapphire, untreated or unheated. We bought the stone & had it set in a simple platinum band in honor of the birth of our 1st daughter. It has her name & DOB engraved inside the band.

Lovely! I am a big fan of gems in a simple solitaire setting with no diamond accents. I love how it just lets the stone get all the attention. What a sweet mother's gift!

Thank you Rosebloom. I did actually want accent stones at the time & my lovely jeweler talked me out of it, saying almost exactly what you did: it is such a beautiful stone, let it speak for itself :sun:

I wear it almost everyday, but my daughter (who's almost 4) knows one day it will be hers & often dances around with it on her index finger :)

Thank you, lovelies! It really is a beautiful colour of pink & gets compliments almost everyday.

Yes, my daughter Hope keeps asking why she can't have it yet, because it says her name inside just like her pre- school kit bag. So that means its hers, right?

Sadly we haven't got around to buying a stone for our other daughter (2nd child syndrome!) But I'd like a Tanzanite or Columbian emerald for her...

Perhaps you could fine a cute little synthetic sapphire and put it in a SS ring for her? You know, as a starter ring? :naughty:

Ooh, Colorluvr, what a fabulous idea! She has little plastic rings from dressing up that she wears CONSTANTLY, but certainly has her beady eye on my sapphire. And I did buy her a little silver star necklace with a teeny diamond in the center last year that she only takes off if she sees me get my ultrasonic out - I think she is a complete mini-me

Minousbijoux, she certainly is a 'spirited' child. Sometimes I try to sell her on EBay... (Joking, obviously!) She looks like the character from the movie Brave, with thick tumbling golden curls & big blue eyes. I heart her so much

Oh your post made me smile! I have a daughter exactly the same! You do realise that this fascination of hers with stones is unlikely to go away don't you?

I love the idea of a s/silver ring for her but do me a favour and get one for #2 as well!

BTW you reminded me of something - when my daughter was little she looked exactly like the little girl in Monster's Inc! She was soooooooooooo cute! I hadn't thought of that for ages and it's really made me happy. :D

Please oh please, let's make rings for your girls! I'm like Rosebloom - I have two boys. I always thought I'd have three, and have a girl. I did not and did not. :(sad So I spoil my nieces with girly things. One year, I got them each a tiara for Christmas! Anyway, it would be wonderful to live vicariously through your girls and help with rings (or a necklace for the older one since she seems so good with the one she already has). We'd all loooooove to help find the right stones (with their approval of course!).

The one thing I caution is that it will be hard to find anything as pretty as your sapphire ring; its big (can you imagine a one carat sapphire on a little girl's finger? ), its pink, its saturated, its pretty and its a traditional solitaire - how will you compete with that?!!

If I could make a suggestion? Last month, I had DanielM (etsy) make me a family necklace with his bezels. Including a pink topaz, for my DD2. The topaz, along with the rest of the stones are beautifully saturated, and really, he's very well priced. Might be worth it to take a look at what he has and what he could suggest for a little one. I think a smaller pink topaz would be perfect, and much more affordable than sapphire. Save that one for her 18th or 21st birthday, maybe?

Oh, and talk about second child syndrome. I've had a peridot bracelet for DD1 for years, nothing yet for DD2, and she's 14.

Kaekae, for shame! :o :(sad When DD#2 goes into therapy, this is what she'll be talking about for years... :nono:

Hangs head, in shame.

But, I swear, I nursed DD1 by the light of QVC (I know, more shame,) while I was too tired to get out of bed, with DD2. I nursed her to the sound of her father's snoring. :wink2: Might explain why she isn't my jewelry loving child?

These tales are really funny!

I absolutely need to get a jewellery piece sorted for number 2, the poor little thing. Even most of her clothes belonged to Hope  I do have a diamond garland ring which I always said she could have if we didn't get around to buying her something of her own, but that's just a massive cop out! It is always on my priority list & just waiting for husbands business to stabilize, so perhaps come summer time I'll be on another coloured stone hunt.

LD - glad I brought you back some treasured memories :))

That ring is gorgeous and you need to get one done for your second daughter, pronto! <3

And I'm too young to have a daughter, but I remember my childhood fascination with diamonds! Now I'm older but this fascination hasn't waned. Planning on saving for a diamond solitaire soon and get it done before I graduate from college (along with a few colored stone rings).
