Opal for earrings

I am looking to purchase a pair of opals for earrings. My target is bezel set studs, though I am not against small dangles if the stones are better suited as such. What type of opal would be best for earrings: solid or doublet? I am inclined towards solid opals for quality but I have noticed that some doublets are quite vibrant and perhaps the overall weight would be less for ear wear. Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Doesn't really matter, I suppose, because you aren't going to wear them to bed or take a shower with them on. If budget conscious, doublets might be the way to go.
