Hello all!

I've had an account on PS for the longest time to admire all of the gorgeous stones from afar, but have yet to make a post until now!

I am looking for a silvery/steely grey spinel for an engagement ring. Round shape and ideally 7mm+.

I'd love to put it in something like the BE petite twisted vine setting, modified with six prongs:

Frekechild's beautiful silvery spinel is a huge favourite of mine! I have briefly spoken with Jeff Davies to see if he has any stones available and sadly there is nothing at present.

Do any of you wonderful coloured stone enthusiasts have any suggestions as to where I might be able to find a stone like this?

Thanking you all kindly in advance :)

Which of Freke's greys are you referring to? Do you care if the stone has any modifiers? They usually have a slight lean towards lavender or blue, in some lighting. Do you have a budget and timeline in mind?

I love her lighter one - the lighter one in this (amazing!) YouTube video

Ideally I'd have no/few modifiers but I know that's difficult. I'd lean toward blue over lavender though.

No real budget, happy to consider all options. I'd like to keep the stone+setting under 2000 USD but we are flexible. My partner and I are looking to elope July of next year but I'd ideally like to get the ring before the end of 2015!

Thanks :)

JuliaB on etsy sometimes has gray spinels, although the ones she has at the moment look darker to me. It's worth contacting her with your specs and seeing what she has, though -- I know she usually has things not on her site. Here's a darker gray spinel https://www.etsy.com/listing/210927429/old-european-cut-oec-greyish-pink-spinel?ref=related-0

I think Frekechild now has an etsy store of her own, or am I confused? But it looks like it's closed for awhile while she relocates. Might still be worth seeing if you can contact her to find if she has any similar stones. https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheGemstoneProject?section_id=16586883&ref=shopsection_leftnav_2

Good luck!

Try Jeff Davies to see if he has any suitable roughs for a round stone.

These is the most recent grey spinel I purchased from him, however, he does not have any listed in his eBay store currently:

Thanks everyone :)

My partner and I ordered a stone from Julia B this morning.

Video here: http://youtu.be/e67dajsoV7E

We are thrilled and I cannot thank Julia enough for her patience and kind help. Now I just can't wait for it to arrive!

We'll be getting the setting made locally.

Thanks again to all of you lovely folk! :) I'll be sure to post pictures when it arrives and when the ring is complete.

That looks perfect! And very much like the one that used to belong to Freke. Yes, please post pics of the ring when it's done!
