Hello everyone!
I'm hoping to work with JKT to have some keys made for my sister and I and would like to have rose cut stones in the pieces somehow. I was thinking about doing our birthstones (mine is amethyst and hers is aquamarine) however she loves lime green so I may consider a lime green gemstone too. I also thought bc they are going to be sister necklaces that I should just do 2 pink rose cut stones (wish I could afford diamonds!). These necklaces will be no longer than 3" in total and so the stones need to be sort of small. I'll link you to the designs I'm looking for and I hope you guys will give me your advice and input. My sister is going to be 14 and this will be her first "nice" piece of jewelry (although I have plans for her yet when she's older :naughty: )

My intial is S and her's is K

ETA: I was just informed that JKT is backed up until the summer and I need the keys before then so I'm contacting another esty vendor for a price quote too.

Are you sourcing these stones yourself? If so, you are going to have a difficult time finding rose cut coloured gemstones. Unless you commission a lapidary to custom cut them, you aren’t going to find them off the shelf. It also doesn’t need to be a heart shaped stone, correct?

Thanks for the reply!
I had looked for rose cuts and I wasn't seeing any of them myself. I'm hoping that the vendor I choose can source them for me bc with shipping/etc I think it will probably be about equal to buy them and easier.

I'm not looking for the round at this moment in time. I may end up using one anyways, but they should be able to source that for me.

Any other vendors besides Sally, daniel m and JKT from etsy that I can contact for a price quote? I'm wanting it in silver with maybe some gold accents.

Thanks so much!

Maybe Jill Anish (janishjewels)? I haven't seen her do keys, but she does nice bezel work and is quicker than JKT.

I guess I have like 1% of the gemstones knowledge other members here have, but I decided to post anyway because I love rose cut gemstones!

I don't know if she would do keys, I do know that kyleannemetals on etsy uses a lot of rose cut gemstones, though.
Here are some blog posts showing a selection:
rose cut diamonds
rose cut sapphires
black rose cut diamonds

She's great at combining silver and gold, imo. Some customer pics.

No, I am not affiliated with her or anything ;)) , I just want something custom made from her and tend to do extensive research before I buy anything :read: ... That being said, she hasn't responded to my message on etsy which I send almost a week ago, I don't know if she received it, so I send one to her email address today.

Please share if you find any rose cut "gems"!

I have been wondering why they are so hard to find...?? Just because they are "old-fashioned"?

I have a lot of pieces from Kyle Anne, but just wanted to chime in that she mostly uses stock-type bezels and would probably have trouble with the intricate design of a key. She has some difficulty with non-round/oval/cushion shapes as well. I like her work for what it is, but I don't think she's a great option for the key. Sorry!

Hi
I like rose cuts a lot too. I know there are a lot of rose cut stones coming out of India right now. Some are very nicely done.
Since you are looking for colored stones you may want to try Gemcal. Hemi is the owner, he has his cutters do a modified rose cut. They are spinels with a domed rose cut top and a brilliant pavilion.

Two of the etsy jewelers I'd highly recommend are Jill Anish (Janish Jewels) and MyheartMonster. I have worked with both of them, they provide highest quality of work and their prices are very affordable.

Look at the way she bends metal (silver), she can probably make anything. She works in gold, too.

I have commissioned several items from Jill and can vouch for the highest quality of her work

Coloured gemstones are cut to maximize colour while trying to add a balance of liveliness, scintillation and brightness. A rose cut has very few facets to reflect much back to the eye, so unless the saturation is great to begin with, most stones are going to end up very see-through and pale. Darkish toned stones might be good candidates for rose cuts.

Ohh!
Thanks so much guys for all the links!
I'm still waiting to hear back from JKT (even though she can't do it in the timeline I'd still like the quote) and 2 other ones. I'll def. check out the other vendors and thank you guys so much for listing the stones. I have a busy weekend but I'll be back this week to check them out better.

Thanks so much everyone!

I thought so too (that she wouldn't or can't make a key) but I misunderstood the OP and thought she was searching for a key or a simple necklace with rose cut gemstones. Sorry, my mistake.
And thank you for sharing your experience with her work, it's good to know! Have you posted your pieces anywhere on the forum?

She hasn't replied to my email, maybe I am too impatient, but it's really turning me off ordering from her.

Don't wanna threadjack too much, but Kyle sometimes takes a while to answer emails. I've often had to email or leave an Etsy message 2-3 times to get a response. She also underestimates her wait times for projects. Slightly annoying but worth it for her awesome prices. She has set stones in silver bezel rings for me for $35 or so. I've posted a bunch of her pieces here and there. I think I'm up to 5...moonstone ring and earrings, demantoid ring, benitoite ring, chrysoprase ring...and a pink tourmaline ring I had made for my mom.
