Hi,

I am undecided on if I want a diamond or gem for my center stone E ring. I am leaning towards gem.

I'm looking for a 3 ct plus peach/peachy pink sapphire or spinel eye clean from any distance so I'm guessing vvs very nice cut. Cushion either regular or rectangular. Natural unheated. I'm open to large oval shape too.

I now a bit about diamonds but gems I'm lost ;-)

My budget is up to $3,500... Is this reasonable?

I am also open to/considering blue sapphire.

Here are a few I've seen that catch my eye but I don't really know what I'm looking at quality wise.

Thanks for your help!!

This was the look that inspired me but this is with a morganite.

Lots of brown and grey in the stones posted. Is that ok with you? Or will you find yourself wishing the color was more pure or vivid?

I only know from personal experience that after a while looking at stones the "drab" tones start to bother me. Some however, love them and seek those colors out. If you want a pure velvety blue in significant size, you will pay accordingly. You could find an excellent orange pink spinel in your price range, that would probably be the route I'd pursue.

As for starruby I have never purchased from them so I can't speak to their quality.

I am sorry to tell you that none of the options you listed are of a decent cut, much less very nice cut. All are badly windowed and the colours are more brown / gray than peachy / blue. Whether your budget is sufficient will depend on your expectations. Can you please post pictures of inspiration stones that you like and want a stone of similar colouration?

Much too shallow for a recut unless willing to lose some face up mm. I suspect more cut issues than a bow-tie which the angle of the stone in the picture is hiding.

Interesting colouration. I suspect the angle of photography to mask some cut issues. I think it will be eye clean but don't know if the inclusions will show up when the light hits it just right or at that certain angle.

Thank you all for your help with this. I am just lost as I said when it comes to colored stones. I love the soft peach colored stones. I just wouldn't know a good cut from a bad one by looking at a stone. So your advice is so much appreciated  I am also open to blue sapphire stones. Def do not want the bowtie effect or window effect on the stones.

Here's a 3+ct light peach sapphire, unheated, and well under your budget:

ETA: Also, I've never purchased from StarRuby, but I've always been held back by the variation in color between their photos & the photos/color descriptions on the lab reports. I've seen some that look orangy-peach on their photos, but the photo and description on the accompanying lab report is purple.... I don't know which to believe!

I just looked at every site I could think of. Aggravating that when you're not looking for something, you see it all the time. Right now, there were some peachy/pinks but not well cut or with brown tones. Or too saturated for you. It will show up, don't doubt it.

That stone looks nice I wonder if the quality of the cut is there?

I've enquired about this one and got more pictures.
According to the seller: It is moody in color as well shifting around from peachy to brown to having a slight green cast in natural light...

I agree with Greg that almost all your eBay suggestions have serious cut issues. Most peachy stones tend to shift, the lighter it is, the shiftier it will be.

Re: In search of 3 ct plus peach/peachy pink sapphire or spi

I should mention one time I got a peach stone (can't even remember what variety it was) and while it was a pretty stone it was so close to my skin color it looked flesh tone and very "blah" on me. I ended up giving it to my SIL who is a redhead and on whose skin there was more of a contrast.
So my only caution, instead of going peachy, either go more orange or more pinkish/purplish to avoid this situation, or at the least see the stone in person before commiting to it.

Topaz are also stones that come in larger sizes and also peaches, but also pinker varieties, so can look into those as well.

3.07 ct Burmese Spinel
http://www.finewatergems.com/spinel.html

What is it about this particular spinel that catches your eye? I know that it is listed as VS clarity but that inclusion in the lower right is fairly large and right where a prong will be located. I would verify that it is eye clean enough for you and that it is up to being worn as a ring stone.

Seller got back to me and it is not eye clean :( I don't know exactly what caught my eye but maybe it's the size and shape of that stone plus the color caught my eye :)

Beautiful gem!
Well cut and great color.
A piece of advice.
The best way to see the color/cut of a gem is in a video.
Very few people have the skills and equipment to take a perfect photo of a gemstone and they heavily edit it.
The result is not the same as in real life.
A video, even bad video will show the gem much closer to the real look.

Yep, you are right not peach at all :) I just loved the uniqueness of the stone and pretty cut!! So I scooped up the Jeff Davies stone and he's completing the ring for me!! Yippee!!! Should have it in a week!

I also scooped up a sapphire from him. It's not heated, blue/aqua green 1.88 not treated either  I'll post a pic!

I've also got a ring being completed that's a blue spinel! It's from another vendor on etsy! Should have her soon! It's over 3 ct.

I have one just like that, same color, and 3 carats, and almost the same cut, except that it's more of a squarish cushion, rather than an elongated one. I love it, and I highly recommend 18K yellow gold for that color.

Enjoy! Please post pics when you get it.
