How do you take such awesome, close-up photos of your gems?

I have a Canon 20d and a variety of lenses. I have put it on macro and used my tripod and extra lighting and they all look horrible...can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

Any tips or tricks would be appreciated!

I have to use a tripod, macro lens and a lite box to get good closeups with my DSLR. My little Canon point and shoot does it so much easier.

Hi Sparkly_Not_Gaudy,

There are at least 100 great photographers here on PriceScope - and even more! However, sometimes it's hard to get started, this is compounded by a lot of info out there is you do a google search.

I may have posted this before, but I think it's the simplest straightforward way to get started. I especially like the mention of $6 in the title. It's written for silver jewelry but with a little variation here and there it is sure to work on loose gemstones too.

Please let us know if this helps at all.

Regards,

Jeffrey Hunt
