About the custom sapphire band: I can''t see why you wouldn''t be allowed to take a look at the batch of sapphires before the ring is assembled. Even for custom orders negotiated online the stones could be inspected (larger center stones mostly, but... what''s the difference?). I do not know if The Natural Sapphire company does this in particular, but others might. Hope the 2c help ![]() |

Speaking of 5k single sapphires... how bad is this:
Item ID: B159 Weight ( Ct ): 2.65 Dimensions(mm): 8.58 X 6.29 X 5.74 Origin: Ceylon Treatments: No Enhancement Shape: Oval Cut: Mixed, Brilliant Crown Color Intensity: Intense Clarity: Insignificant Inclusions (VVS2) Total Price: $ 4902.50 And darker... Item ID: B139 Weight ( Ct ): 2.36 Color: Blue Dimensions(mm): 7.57 X 6.69 X 5.08 Origin: Ceylon Treatments: No Enhancement Shape: Cushion Cut: Mixed, Brilliant Crown Color Intensity: Vivid Clarity: Insignificant Inclusions (VVS2) Total Price: $ 4366.00 This is no 'bargain basement' shop. Others may have slightly better prices. And the unenhanced status of these stones adds to the cost. They definitely fit the definition of fine sapphire to me. Unless you wanted allot larger. Better may be out there, but just by a puritanical margin - as far as I can tell. Heated should be about 4 cts before the budget gets strained (for example, this). Fine color would still be a find - as long as there is no more invasive (and objectionable) treatment than heating. I don't know too many shops online with decent photos of sapphire and enough to choose from. My 2c

I wish I could see them ... Hate these flat screens. Oh well...Otherwise, lighter blue seems nicer to me as well. And there were more on the list of the respective shop that would have fit my own taste better - but they are most of the time considered lighter than 'fine'... so, I left that out. ![]() |

Speaking of which... I didn''t want to give all the credit to unheated sapphires. That treatment may have made tons on unusable stone look OK-ish, but fine color is rare anyway. As long as the ''heat treatment'' is the traditional thing. There is no way to compare pictures from different sellers, but at least according to the in-store grading these also measure up. Most of blue sapphire is heated. So is this: 2.8cts, 6/5 vB, $1500 ![]() The shop surely prices the untreated status as expected, but unlike the company above mentioned on the thread, lists mostly heated sapphires. There wasn''t any in the size and price range as those above (e.g. 5.5cts / $ 7k and next 2.2cts / $1.5k). These stones can be certified upon request, as far as I know. The post was meant to make a case for heat treatment, color and cost. ![]() |

Thanks for the input. My jeweler had the sapphires shipped, as suggested. I loved most of them, so he is finding new ones to replace the rejects. Great suggestion. The learning curve on jewelery is steep.
I am excited to see the finished product - a diamond sapphire eternity band with 4 mm stones in a shared prong setting. Love PS & look forward to learning more about beautiful stones.Martha |

Hello Bluehue,
If you are going to wear the ring alot I would go with platinum instead of white gold. My sister had a similar stone made about 25 years ago and after 10 years of daily wear it started falling apart. The stones would fall out Etc. She had it remade in Platinum and it has lasted 15 years with no problems and she wears it everyday, it''s her actual wedding band. Could you post side by side pictures of the color blue you want and the darker one you don''t like? Do you mind heated or treated stones? What are the color and clarity of the diamonds you want to use? Do you want chips or full cut rounds? That will give the jewelers here on line and that you ask a better idea of what you want and the price. |
