Where did you rent your tuxes from?

When David's son got married in May, they rented from Men's Wearhouse since the groomsmen are scattered all over the US. Each guy would go to his local store to get measured, and they sent info to the store near the wedding location.

ETA: I think that's also where my son got theirs when they got married a few years ago.

we''re also using MW Tux, and so have a bunch of our friends who''ve gotten married recently (I live about 1.5 hours south of Atlanta, and many of my friends in ATL have rented through them, too). the prices are definitely good; the customer service depends entirely on which store you go to. i know in my hometown, there are two--one blows and the other is awesome. just walk in and feel the place out--see how quickly someone offers to help you, etc. good luck!

We''re also using MWTux (Men''s Wearhouse). They usually have a deal where the groom''s tux is free with 4 (or is it 3?) other tux rentals. You just pay a refundable deposit to secure the tux - I think it was $40. If you have the guys get socks or pocket silks (which they pay for and get to keep), these aren''t included with the free rental. We chose MWTux because FI has generally had good experiences with their stores, and our guys are scattered all over the country. They were able to get measured easily in their own towns, and they can choose to pick up the tux at their store or ours. They also have a website where you can log on and see who and who hasn''t been fitted yet. Nice and handy when you don''t want to nag unnecessarily.

we just put a deposit down at president tuxedo. they were the cheapest (at $108 a tux) and gave a $130 discount on the groom''s tux (which would have been free but i think we are picking an extra fancy one). they had the biggest selection where we are at and thus were the only one that had this one tux that we both really liked a lot (skinny pin stripped).

We just picked out outs on Friday! I LOVE them!! We are renting them from Sam Meyer''s and they are $170 each. The grooms will be free since we are having more than six! They are Calvin Klien and the material feels magnificent!! We could have gone a little cheaper but we wanted a newer, modern looking tux and I think they are going to look beautiful!

Here is my 2 cents.

Get your tuxedos from a small shop. A place that has the tuxedos actually in their store or at least elsewhere in the metro area where they can be picked up in short notice. I went to Men''s Wearhouse (and several other large chains...the story is all the same) and asked them to try on a specific tuxedo in my size. They said I couldn''t, because they don''t actually stock the tuxedos there on site. There were all in a warehouse in Texas. They said they would be shipped in before the wedding. I asked what would happen if a mistake was made and one was the wrong size or there was something wrong with one of them. They assured me that wouldn''t happen. I left and found a small local tux shop that kept a stock of tuxes locally.

People think it is more convenient because large chains have locations all over. But really all you need to do is have your groomsmen go to a local tailor and get measured. Either the tailor will do it for free hoping to gain a new client, or at worst charge him a few dollars. Then he calls your local tux shop and gives them the measurements.

Another thing that bothered me...walk into a big chain tux shop and ask them serious questions about formalwear. Most of the employees are clueless. If they don''t know what an opera pump is, I''m not taking formalwear advice from them. Just one man''s opinion, though.

A second suggestion. Grooms should BUY their tuxedo. It is not that much more expensive! Except don''t forget you still need to buy cuff links, shoes, a shit, etc. I bought my tuxedo online. There are many place to look...I found a good selection and price at uniformalwearhouse.com Then, take the tuxedo to your tailor and have it altered so it fits you well. There is no way a rented tuxedo will look anywhere near as good a well tailored tuxedo. Now I wore what I would consider to be the classic tuxedo (black, peak lapels, white wing collar shirt NO PLEATS, with a black cumberbund)...so my groomsmen and I were able to match even though I bought my tux and they rented theirs. But obviously they don''t need to match. I would rather wear a well tailored tux and not match my groomsmen.

Agreed...

We're renting from a shop in SF that's not a huge chain but a high end tux shop. They were great on short notice last year for my friends wedding when one of their groomsmen procrastinated on going in to get his until 1 1/2 weeks before the wedding! They were able to have it ready to go for him a few days later. MY FI's tux was free because we are renting 8 tuxes from them. I forgot the cutoff and they were about er.. $160 each? I forget.

Anyways I love the personal touch at the local tux shop. The guys are very knowledgeable about the tuxes... the quality is very high end and they can help you very quickly. Our groomsmen are out of state and so is my FI's dad who got a tux too and all they had to do is get measured at their local tailor or tux shop then call in their measurements. My dad on the other hand owns his tux. He got a great deal on it on sale and it looks really good on him! I doubt everyone can buy their tux but I was suprised at how affordable his was. He's worn it multiple times too!
