If we get the band we want we''ll probably go with "Over the Rainbow". We got engaged the day after seeing Wicked in NYC.

RoseAngel, this was one of the hardest decisions for FI and I -- we''re both music nuts, so you can imagine what it was like to "narrow" our choices down to 50 (!)

We ended up with Nora Jones''s "Come Away With Me" because it has an old-fashioned "swing" feel and is still pretty modern. Like us. Except not really

We''re of course doing a sort of jokey dance to the first half of it...because we''re oddballs.

What are you thinking of dancing to?

He wants the reggae version of To Love Somebody because he "wants to be different" but I''m arguing for Beat a Drum by REM which played in his car on almost every date we went on for the first two years together, plus he gave me the album it''s on (Reveal) and REM is the reason I emailed him in the first place! I think I''m going to "win" this one.

plus it has the line... "half way from coal, half way to diamond..." and the line he always sang to me "this is all I want, it''s all I need.... this is all I am, it''s everything..."

perfect first dance song, plus if he really wants to be different, hardly anybody would choose REM.

i dunno what we are going to dance to. i know we want a really classic song. frank sinatra, nat king cole & natalie cole, etc. but i just haven''t found the one. i like "the way you look tonight" for the rythem, but i don''t think the lyrics are right.

we''ve picked out he father/mother/daughter/son dance (what a wonderful world) and the last song of the night (this will be - an ever lasting love) but we can''t chose OUR song!

We're having the hardest time with this too. Some of our vetos:

1. Stuck on You -- Lionel Richie
2. All I Want is You -- U2
3. Falling in Love with You -- Elvis

My fiance really wants Angel by Lionel Richie but I'm not sure. We're looking for something sweet but fun and 80s so it will show us and set the tone for the wedding...

I have no idea what we''re going to pick. We don''t have a song and we have pretty different tastes in music, so this might be a bit difficult for us. We haven''t even started talking about it.

We did "She''s No Lady (She''s My Wife)" by Lyle Lovett ... but because the song starts with the lines

She hates my mama. She hates my daddy too.

It was a good thing the DJ didn''t turn up the volume all the way at first!

We liked it because it''s snarky but sweet. (And bluesy & perfect for a barn dance)

The preacher asked her
And she said I do
The preacher asked me
And she said yes he does too
And the preacher said
I pronounce you 99 to life
Son she''s no lady ...
she''s your wife

We didn''t dance, so there was no first dance song, but we did have the guitarist play "When I''m 64" as the recessional because the first time we talked about forever I sang that song to him (no I can''t sing).

"At Last"- Etta James. I figured it was fitting after 5.5 years together

We never had a song but we went to a wedding a month ago and they played it for the first slow song. DH teased me that we should do our "routine." Whenever we hear it he just smiles at me.

That''s how we did it. I was so nervous about the steps I am glad we got it over with.

"I Will" by the Beatles... short and sweet!

Who knows how long I''ve loved you
You know I love you still
Will I wait a lonely lifetime
If you want me to, I will
For if I ever saw you
I didn''t catch your name
But it never really mattered
I will always feel the same
Love you forever and forever
Love you with all my heart
Love you whenever we''re together
Love you when we''re apart
And when at last I find you
Your song will fill the air
Sing it loud so I can hear you
Make it easy to be near you
For the things you do endear you to me
Oh, you know I will
I will

we did "Have I told you Lately" by Rod Stewart. that was a hard thing to pick because we really don''t/didn''t have a "song".

we both thought the words were very symbolic and meaningful.

I like this thread. We haven''t picked one out yet but my leading contender is In this Life (Israel Kamakawiwo''ole).

I also like:
The Way You Look Tonight, (Frank Sinatra swing version)
Unforgettable (Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole)
My First, My Last, My Everything (Barry White)

She hasn''t told me her picks, but I know she likes:
any song by Celine Dion
Valentine (Martina McBride, Jim Brickman)
Come Away With Me (Norah Jones)

Originally we were going with "the way you look tonight" with Frank Sinatra, but last minute decided to go with "Let''s Stay Together" by Al green cuz it was more fun to dance to. We loved it and everyone loved it too!

Our First Dance song was "Dance with You" by Live. Live is my all time favorite band. I have always loved this song and it really reminds me of me and DH..

Sittin on the beach
The island king of love
Deep in fijian seas
Deep in some blissful dream
Where the goddess finally sleeps
In the lap of her lover
Subdued in all her rage
And Im aglow with the taste of the demons driven out
And happily replaced with the presence of real love
The only one who saves
I wanna dance with you
I see a world where people live and die with grace
The karmic ocean dried up and leave no trace
I wanna dance with you
I see a sky full of the stars that change our minds
And lead us back to a world we would not face
The stillness in your eyes
Convinces me that i
I dont know a thing
And I been around the world and Ive tasted all the wines
A half a billion times came sickened to your shores
You show me what this life is for
I wanna dance with you
I see a world where people live and die with grace
The karmic ocean dried up and leave no trace
I wanna dance with you
I see a sky full of the stars that change our minds
And lead us back to a world we would not face
In this altered state
Full of so much pain and rage
You know we got to find a way to let it go
Sittin on the beach
The island king of love
Deep in fijian seas
Deep in the heart of it all where the goddess finally sleeps
After eons of war and lifetimes
She smilin and free, nothin left
But a cracking voice and a song, oh lord
I wanna dance with you
I see a world where people live and die with grace
The karmic ocean dried up and leave no trace
I wanna dance with you
I see a sky full of the stars that change our minds
And lead us back to a world we would not face

Life Without You - Stevie Ray Vaughn

This is actually a breakup song

, and after 10 years we have never broken up, not even come close. This was just always our song, a song we both loved. Probably because it is so emotional and soulful. I have never met another couple that this was "their" song. Also, it was a great song to dance to, especially b/c hubby is a better dancer than I

We're thinking about "Your Song" by Elton John... we don't have any particular song that's meaningful to us, other than one my MOH is singing during the ceremony... but I've always loved the Moulin Rouge version, and the lyrics are so nice for a first dance. And then only recently did I find out that it was actually my parents' first dance song! So I like the significance of that.

ETA -- I also LOVE "These are the Days" by Van Morrison, so that might be in the running too... have to talk it all over with FI though.

Ours was "Grow Old With You" from the Wedding Singer soundtrack. It''s the one that Adam Sandler sings to Drew Barrymore on the plane at the end of the movie. You know, "I wanna make you smile whenever you''re sad, carry you around when your arthritis is bad. Oh, it would be so nice growing old with you..." It was short and sweet!!
