OpinionI am hired to give my opinion on what the client has purchased or inherited as well as many other types of evaluations and will give all of the information that I can make available. It is important for the client to understand that there are many different markets in which a piece is evaluated and "what it''s worth" will be different depending on those markets. I am happy to spend as much time as necessary to assist the client in understanding what they are asking for and what they will be receiving.

OpinionLicensing is not required. Anyone can call themselves an appraiser. It is up to the individual to become a professional by obtaining education and experience and joining appraisal organizations that require members to adhere to strict codes of ethics. Being a Graduate Gemologist does not qualify someone to be an appraiser. Putting a price on an item is not appraising it. Other Areas Of ExpertiseI can detect old cuts vs. new cuts in diamonds, some country of origins and readily apparent treatments such as laser drilling and fracture filling in diamonds although if I detect a stone has been treated but cannot confirm (for instance with Jade that requires infra-red spectroscopy) I will refer the client to the appropriate lab for further testing.

OpinionIt is just as bad to be over insured as it is to be under insured. An appraisal that is to be used for insurance protection should reflect a true out-the-door value, not an unrealistic, inflated number.
